Writing into the Void? Try Substacking It

I didn’t really promise a schedule of posting on this blog. Maybe that was a mistake. It definitely was a mistake if for no other reason than I haven’t held myself accountable. To write regularly, whether it be to post musings here or …? So, I’ve never built engagement. Just started out chucking thoughts into the void. But now…

Can’t Ignore the Hula Hoops

The back of my mind has been swirling. Kind of like a GenZ hula-hooping music festival hippie twirling in her own world, the thought of starting a Substack has been spinning in the background for months. I can’t ignore it, what with those colorful gyrating patterns of other writers gaining traction, making connections, building the elusive platform. Newsletters, particularly Substack, are the hot ticket, and I’m late to the party.

That’s what’s held me back, the concern I’ll be overlooked, that there’s already “enough” content out there. (But is there ever enough content to satisfy today’s gluttony for infotainment?) There’s also the Big O.

No, not that one! Overwhelm.

Keeping to a published, hold-my-feet-to-the-fire posting schedule means regularly writing. Although, writing isn’t the issue—creating is the problem. Coming up with a theme, then slotting in ideas and topics to fit said theme, writing into it and offering whatever insights or benefits to readers I think I can offer. That’s not too much to ask, right? All the other Substackers (many of whom are former bloggers, so they already had an agenda and probs a regular schedule) have figured it out and implemented such an animal.

A Weekly-ish Newsletter is doable, right?

Is it too big an ask for me to add that into my daily diary of editing my memoir, boat chores, freelance gig for cashflow, reading all the Substacks I currently subscribe to, trying to engage with them, plus create content and connect on other social media like Instagram? Le sigh, there never seem to be enough hours in a day, n’est pas?

My daughter hooping it up with fire.

So, what I’m working through here in the digiworld is that I will be implementing a Substack newsletter in the near future. The flaming hula hoops (wait – who lit them on fire?!) are coalescing into a choregraphed routine as my thoughts of “what to say and to whom I wish to say it” finally organize themselves into clarity. I’m almost there. This is what I’ve got so far:

Would you read this weekly-ish newsletter?

“Moving Forward” – A Newsletter of behind-the-scenes inspiration for travelers and dreamers seeking the most out of life from this carpe diem boat-dwelling/world-exploring traveler.

A work-in-progress. I’ll let you know when the curtain’s ready to go up.
