How It All Began – Writing from a Floaty Home

Wendy Hawkes: Writing from a Boat

By Wendy Hawkes / March 11, 2023

Back in 2023 when I launched this website, I wrote: I’ll file this under “Trying Something New” but in truth, this has been waiting to emerge. I’ve fallen in love with writing. Like crocus sleeping beneath blankets of snow, words are forever biding their time until just the right moment to spring from my mind. I’ve always loved words, though writing for myself–writing for the art and to nourish my soul–that’s new to me.

I’ve always talked a lot. And I’ve always blurbed with too much detail, too much thought. While working on my debut memoir, I realized it was time to extract the prose living rent free in my head. After moving aboard our power catamaran–our home for four years–I began sharing my experiences of travel, of writing, of family, of living full time on a boat, and whatever else came forth from my brain. Now having transitioned into slow-travel land life, I invite you to find my weekly musings at Moving Forward on Substack. And I hope you enjoy the ride.
